Back in April Helen abseiled down the side of Debenhams retail store in Taunton, she admitted she was more nervous about doing the abseil than she was when she did the Sky Dive also for the hospice a few years back. Helen presented the cheque to Teresa at the Taunton St Margaret’s Hospice and spent an hour visiting the patients dressed in her costume. Helen said “ This is a great charity and I support it 100% though I am not sure what Teresa has in store for me to do next!?”

· Liaise with Group Transport to ensure vehicles and MHE are operated safely and efficiently. Transport legislation is observed with special attention to Company O’Licence considerations, drivers’ hours and working time directives.

· Maintain daily cost control sheet and report to Accounts Department.

· Produce and communicate weekly and monthly performance statistics.

· Regularly review vehicle routing to match business demands with the most cost effective schedule

· Liaise with Group Transport to ensure vehicles and mechanical handling equipment are operated safely and efficiently in line with legislation, paying particular attention to the Working Time Directive.

· Manage local HR planning and temporary staff hiring. Driver’s hours, WTD, resource and workload planning.

· Manage site HR function (annual leave, absenteeism, accident reporting and welfare provision), maintaining appropriate documentation in line with Health & Safety Legislation and Group Standing Orders.

· To engage, deploy, discipline and dismiss staff in accordance with company policy and budgets.

We are looking for Bell 206 B3 Helicopter Pilots / Instructors and Twin Fixed Wing and High Wing Single Engine Pilots. We are also looking for Maintenance Engineers with B1 and B2 experience.

Instructor Pilots - salary £40- £45 k
Helicopter Maintenance Engineers with B1 (Mechanical/ airframe/ engines/ structural and landing) and/ or B2 (Electrical/ Avionics) experience - salary of £35-£40k

It is a 3 months assignment, possibly 10 weeks in South Africa and then 2 weeks in England then back again for 3 months etc

On June 16th whilst the rest of the Red Berry team were at a quiz at The Thatch Cottage organised by the Shepton Mallet Chamber of Commerce, Helen went to Bridgwater to attend an evening hosted by the Somerset Charity of the Year winner Brainwave. In the picture is Helen Lacey (MD) of Red Berry Recruitment and Christine Cryne- Chief Executive for the charity, plus 2 members of staff and their son. The event was an open evening to those who had supported the charity over the year to show the supporters where the money that they had donated or raised had been spent. Helen said “ It was a very moving experience to hear the stories about the families whose children, suffer from brain injury and what they go through to rehabilitate themselves. As a company, we will certainly be looking at what else we can do to help support this well worthy cause”.

The event was held at the property of Chris Watts who runs ACF hospitality. Helen sponsored Charlotte and Gemma off Hoop Char to perform for the guests, in which when they arrived they were greeted by the ladies on stilts and offered champagne Then throughout the evening Charlotte and Gemma performed amazing acts with fire and led hoops. Helen also donated a massive hamper that raised £80 in auction.

On Sunday the 6th of June it was our very own Natalie White’s Birthday, however not just any birthday it was her second 21st (+9). Natalie is our very own Office Manager who is known too everyone who has been to the office (and even some who have only passed on by with the windows open) with her always lively personality and friendly approach! So on Friday 4th the office staff threw her a surprise celebration which involved presents, cake and embarrassing pictures. I’m sure everyone else will join us in wishing Natalie a Happy Birthday and hoping she had a great 30th birthday party!

Helen then decided to sponsor the Junior and 1km races. With over 150 runners, Charlotte and Helen had their hands full giving out medals to all the deserving children who ran.

On Friday 21^st May, one of the hottest days this year so far, Helen and Natalie dressed causal for the day at an event organised by Rachel Sweet of Sweet Skills, Carly Warren of Thoroughbred Print and Design and Jane Adkins of A Head for PR. They attended seminars and talks by a number of guest speakers including Saira Khan, who was a contestant on the first ever ‘The Apprentice’ with Alan Sugar! Sairas seminar was excellent, Helen and Natalie thoroughly enjoyed the day and in between clay pigeon shooting and archery spread the word of Red Berry a little further across Somerset!

On Saturday 24th April Helen Lacey, MD of Red Berry Recruitment donned a Wonder Womens outfit and threw herself backwards off (with a harness) from the top of the Debenhams building in Taunton for St Margaret’s Hospice. Watched by on-lookers, Helen regrettingly wore her lycra outfit, abseiled down the building and raised a total of £800. This amount was due to the enormous generosity of many people she knows, in particular some great clients. Alex, the HR Director at Crown Pets Foods in Castle Cary matched Helens amount raised doubling the sponsored amount! A HUGE thank you to everyone that donated, it really was appreciated! It seems like Helen likes to throw herself out of or down objects for charity, though she has assured us her feet are firmly on the ground for a while. She did however say that if anyone has a bungee rope, she hasn’t done that yet and she would love to give it a go!

In 2008 Red Berry Recruitment were pleased to donate over 70 Easter eggs to brighten the smiles at the children’s ward in the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Helen Lacey (Managing Director of Red Berry Recruitment) had such a warm response from the 2008 ‘Easter Egg Appeal’ she thought she would repeat it this year. So during the month of March, Red Berry Recruitment collected Easter Eggs from its clients, candidates and staff, preparing for an even BIGGER Easter donation. So on Wednesday 31st March, Helen Lacey (MD) and Natalie White (Office Manger) of Red Berry Recruitment visited the children’s ward at the Royal United Hospital to donate an enormous 83 Easter Eggs to the delights of the children (and staff!!). On Tuesday 9th March, Helen together with Nicki Davey (left), Director of Saltbox Training and Events Ltd and Anne-Marie Boyle (Centre) Senior Associate of Nicholas Moore Specialist Employment Lawyer took part of a presentation seminar called “Distress of De-stress?” aimed at stress in the work place. Each of the three ladies delivered a presentation in each of their specialist subjects at the Bishops Palace, Wells, with all profits going to the Somerset Young Careers Network; a charity which provides invaluable support and advice to children and young people who care for a family member. Together the Ladies raised a grand total of £243 for the charity, so many thanks to everyone who turned up, it was a great success!

A group of engineering students at Norton Radstock College have surprised even themselves by finishing seventh in the South West regional finals of the Formula 1 In Schools technology challenge at the University of the West of England, in Bristol.

Sponsored by Red Berry Recruitment, based in Shepton Mallet, a team of six teenagers, assisted by engineering lecturer Damien Pearce, won a race against time to produce a working miniature Formula 1 racing car.

Helen Lacey, director of Red Berry Recruitment, the team’s sponsor, said: “This was a great opportunity for a team of enthusiastic young people, and they’ve done extremely well. Also, they put together a really great presentation.”

This year, after Brainwave won Charity of year at the Somerset Business Awards, Helen decide that Brainwave, ran by Christine Cryne the CEO was going to be their charity of choice for the Christmas appeal. Brainwave works with families to deliver individual home based therapy and exercise programmes that help children with disabilities and development delay to achieve their potential. Winners of the 2009 Somerset Chamber of Commerce “Business of the Year Awards” attribute some of their success to membership of a breakfast networking group.

Helen Lacey MD of Red Berry Recruitment and Sandra Pennyfather MD of Driving Ambition both received accolades at the Somerset Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Both business ladies are members of the Wells breakfast networking group BNI and meet every Thursday morning for breakfast with around 20 other local business owners. Helen, whose company won the “Mendip New Business of the Year” award, only started her business three years ago. “Networking is a key part of my business success” says Helen “I go to many networking events and it is a key part of my business strategy. I regularly get introduced to new companies and contacts as part of my networking”. Red Berry retained the “Mendip New Business of the Year” award having also won it in 2008! Red Berry also won “Most Promising New Business for the South West” and went to London for the Nationals Awards at the end of November.

Best Moustache Competition 2009

In November Helen was asked to judge the best moustache competition, organised by James Brooking-Clarke to raise money for St Margaret’s Hospice. As wells as a charity Golf Day, they raised £1,100 for St Margaret’s, which was a fantastic result. Sponsorship from local businesses was also very important in helping, to achieve this total. It was a day of memorable rainfall, challenging golf and tremendous spirit: an excellent combination for a successful event! James is hopeful that it will be repeated again this year and that it will continue to generate support, fun and funds for St Margaret’s in the 30th year of providing specialist care to local people living with a terminal illness.

The event was held at the conference facilities at Junction 24, where a fabulous buffet and black tie event was enjoyed by all. The team consisted of Paul Stephenson of Cognique, Trevor Lever of TLC, Sandra Pennyfather of Driving Ambition and Graham Hall from Ambitious Branding. Also in attendance were 4 of the Red Berry Team, Sarah Fraser (Industrial Consultant) , Craig Skinner (PA) , Natalie White (Office Manager) and Lucy Applegate (Commercial Consultant). Though they sadly did not do as well as the others, they still enjoyed the evening taking home a DVD each! Red Berry collects for British Heart Foundations Red Heart appeal - 27th February 2009

Red Berry Recruitment was dressed in Red in aid of the British Heart Foundations Red Heart Appeal! After meeting Lucy, the charities Fund Raising Manager at a 4 Networking breakfast event, Helen was interested in seeing what she could do to help the charity raise some money! Helen’s mum has suffered with heart problems, having had a pace maker and open heart surgery, so this was a charity that was very special to her.

The ladies of Red Berry contacted some of their companies and were given permission to go onsite with collection tins! The official amount raised was £370.51 of which a generous £100 cheque was contributed by Wyke Farms.

The ladies at Red Berry and the British Heart Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that contributed!

As Chairperson of the Events Committee for the Shepton Mallet Chamber of Commerce, Helen headed up the arrangements for the Business Breakfast which was held at Bowlish House. The guest speaker was Dervla Nash of Bartlett and Co. who spoke about Small Court Claims, Debt Enforcement and Redundancy. Feedback from the 40 attendees came back as “Excellent” and “A superb breakfast and networking opportunity.” The Shepton Mallet Chamber of Commerce have held a number of events this year and aim to arrange more networking events for local businesses in the area.

Helen spoke to 40 students of the Business Academy programme of the sixth form at Norton Hill School about her business and what she thinks it takes to be an entrepreneur! The Business Academy programme is a 2 year course that involves local businesses mentoring and giving lectures to the students about all facets of business life. Helen received fantastic feedback and was told that they are looking forward to her speaking again.

The Shepton Chamber of Commerce Events Committee members including Helen, who is the chair-person, dressed up and gave out free mulled wine and mince pies. The festivities included the Whitstone and St Pauls Choir and Trumpet Band, the Academy Singers, Bowlish School Infants singing and a Best Dressed Elf Competition. The Carnival Princess was there as was Father Christmas who gave out presents to the children. Although it was a cold evening, it was very enjoyable. A big thank you to all who contributed!

“I thought I would just drop you a line to let you know how Nikki is getting on. She is great! She is good with parents, kids and colleagues, is unflappable, will take on any task asked of her and is really quick to pick things up. We use a management system for the pupils details and Nikki was happy to use this from day one and can usually navigate her way around the system, but asks when she is not sure. Thank you for your help in filling this ‘gap’, we are recruiting and have had a lot of interest in the post. I think Nikki has been surprised at how busy it is, but certainly does not complain, she has indicated that she is happy to stay with us until we make the appointment, which should be the end of October. In short, I can’t think of anyone nicer to have working with us and if I can recruit someone as good as Nikki to my permanent staff I will be delighted.”

Helen Lacey awarded Abigail Gibbons a special trophy for “Player of the Future”. Helen has been supporting the Shepton Mallet girls Under 12’s football team since the beginning of the year after buying the team their new All Weather jackets. Helen was delighted to be asked to attend the match by coach, Lesley Rowan, and decided to offer the special award. The concept behind the award is to encourage players that may not be seen as player of the match but that have long term potential. Helen sees the award as mirroring the business world, where future success is achieved by long-term effort.

Easter Egg Appeal 2008

The girls of Red Berry Recruitment decided to collect Easter Eggs from their clients to spread some Easter cheer to the patient’s of the children’s ward of the Royal United Hospital in Bath. The hospital was chosen because both Red Berry’s Book-keeper’s son and Jacqui (Helen’s PA) had been patients in the past. Over 70 eggs where collected and very gratefully received so children, doctors and nurses all got an egg! The ward wrote to Red Berry Recruitment saying “Thank you so much for your generous donation to the children’s ward. We ran a competition to complete the sentence: “I like to use Red Berry Recruitment for my staffing needs because…” and the lucky winners of the competition were Stuart from Mitre Woodcraft in Wells and Robin from WK Engineering based in Westbury Sub Mendip. 8th March 2008 - Shepton Mallet Under 12’s Girls Football Team Sponsorship

Helen Lacey owner and Director of Red Berry Recruitment is seen with the Shepton Mallet under 12’s Girls Football Team and Lesley Brown, their coach and trainer. The girls are wearing the 12 jackets that Red Berry Recruitment bought for them after the team took up Red Berry Recruitment’s offer of sponsorship. Helen stayed to watch the first half of the game against the Wellington Wild Cats commenting to Lesley “what enthusiasm and dedication the girls have, it is great to see such a team effort!”. The girls scored 2 lovely goals in the second half but were disappointed to concede a third in the last 5 minutes to lose 3-2. They worked really well as a team in the second half and were proud of the team performance. Player of the match was Naomi. Lesley’s favourite comment was from one of our goalies who was substituted….she snuggled into her new top as the rain came down and said “It’s heaven in here!”

Four of the women at Red Berry Recruitment went along to a quiz night and raffle organised by Simon Saunders of Simon Saunders Design to help raise money for the Anthony Nolan trust. The ladies had great fun and although they came last in the quiz, all of them won a prize in the raffle! Red Berry Recruitment donated a raffle prize, and Simon has informed Helen that he raised £500, which is excellent news!

“Well where do I start!! I started looking for a job in Somerset back in March 2007, and unfortunately didn’t sign up with Red Berry until the end of Jan 2008. I was signed up with a few (well quite a lot of) agencies, both National companies and local ones, but I had no calls that matched my requirements for what I was really looking for, which was something local, for a decent pay check… but then I signed up with Red berry, and didn’t look back. I had a call the following day and interview for the end of the week… Helen was my main contact, and she is great, very enthusiastic, knows her job very well, and she makes sure that your going for a role that is what your looking for rather than what she thinks you could do. which to me, was really important because I was getting pretty fed up getting calls about roles an hour and a half away. Any way, I don’t normally leave feedback for anything (apart from eBay) but felt that credit where credit’s due, I’m really happy where I’m working now, and I happen to know another candidate that signed up, and before she’d even got home she had an interview lined up for the next day.. she got the job and is happy where she is too. So lots of thanks to you Helen, and all the team - who were really friendly on the phone too, I couldn’t fault you if I tried!! Take care and good luck, not that you’ll need it! After frequenting many pubs in the Bristol area they ended up dancing in the Syndicate, where R&B and Dance was the music of choice!
