Get to know Loretta below:

How long have you been working at Red Berry?

I have been here 3 years in March

What made you want to go into recruitment?

I wanted a career change after spending 8 years as a hairdresser and Red Berry was renowned as being a fantastic business with great opportunities. I started as a Recruitment Administrator and quickly progressed onto becoming a Trainee Recruitment Consultant. I successfully completed my training and within the first year I was promoted to the Branch Manager of Shepton Mallet.

What do you enjoy most about recruitment?

I believe that ultimately recruitment is one of the most rewarding roles for me; you are helping candidates to find their dream role or a step into the career they are interested in. Every day is different in recruitment which is what keeps my job exciting. I am able to meet new people and deal with all sorts of queries, some of which you just couldn’t make up!

What’s the biggest challenge you face?

One of the biggest challenges in recruitment is that unemployment levels are so low. This means that there is a candidate shortage, ultimately making it more of a challenge to fill roles. The demand and expectations from clients continues to grow which adds a certain amount of pressure. Similarly, it can be frustrating trying to get clients to trust your knowledge of the local market, and in turn give the appropriate advice. Having knowledge of the local market allows us to tailor our services to clients’ specific requirements, but not having that trust can make this a challenge.

What three top tips would you give to someone starting out in recruitment?

Be honest, don’t take things personally and be yourself – people buy from people!

How does it feel to be nominated for this award?

It feels amazing to be nominated for this award, although the role gives me the motivation I need, it feels great to be recognised for the hard work that I put in each day. I have been given opportunities at Red Berry that I didn’t think I would be entitled to after changing my career, but it is amazing to be recognised for a national award that I was put forward for by Helen. I’m so excited to have a fabulous evening with Helen, Jessie and Sean.
