Be the King/Queen of all candidates! –By Jess Chapman, Commercial Consultant, Bridgwater

Since joining Red Berry back in October this year, I have received hundreds of applications/ CV’s  applying for positions! Touching on Joe’s blog previously, it is a ‘candidate driven market’ out there at the moment, with there being more jobs out there than there are candidates, however some types of candidates are becoming harder to find. Sometimes these candidates are lost because they haven’t detailed a specific skill, qualification or experience on their CV or have not given enough detail, however having met with them and the client, us consultants know they would be perfect for the role! It is so important that when applying for a job and writing your CV that you really sell yourself detailing all your achievements, skills and qualities as this is the tool which will help get you to the next stage-interview! Your CV is the way to set you apart from other applicants and your chance to shine and make a good first impression so it definitely worth spending time and effort on getting it right!

  • Include a Personal profile-sell yourself and your qualities, tailor this to a specific area if applying for a specific role
  • Include personal details-name, address, email address and phone number
  • Key skills-IT, admin, personal etc
  • Education and training- including school and college qualifications and any other training courses attended
  • Career history-starting with most recent, include temporary and voluntary positions, your reason for leaving, your end salary and details of what you did in the role
  • Interests-not essential but good to put in especially if interests are relevant to job role
  • References-preferably two, including one from your most recent employee
  • Excellent presentation, set out in a readable and neat layout-remember first impressions count! Check for spellings and grammar.
  • Update your CV with any new positions, change of address etc

Skilled, quality candidates are in high demand-make your CV count and secure the position you want!
